Game Day Beer Review: Lagunitas Brewing Undercover Investigation Shut-down American Strong Ale
(9.75% ABV) Poured from the bottle at the home office. Undercover Investigation Shut-down Ale is a clear-as-a-bell, deep copper color with a thick head that sticks around for good long while.
The beer smells of caramel and hops, with slight alcoholic esters also noticeable.
The sweet malt gives this beer a well-defined backbone, but it's not the only element you notice when you taste it; that's because the piny-tasting hops are also well apparent. The brewers at Lagunitas got the balance between these two elements just about pitch perfect.
The beer's got a lightish mouthfeel for such a high ABV quaff, and is moderately carbonated. Recommended: A
